About Us
Welcome to the Massachusetts High School Chess League!
Who are we?
We are a growing community of over 200 players across over 20 high schools around MA. We host both virtual and in-person events (held at the Boylston Chess Club, the largest chess club in Boston), with our main event being a school team tournament, where teams compete over the span of several months for the title of MHSCL Champions.
MHSCL is completely student-run and our tournaments are 100% free for all players. Food, drinks, and prizes are provided thanks to our generous sponsors!
Our Mission
Founded in 2021, MHSCL serves as a platform where high school chess players can compete and connect with other players of all skill and experience levels across the state. We hope that through our league, players can have fun playing, discussing, and improving at chess with each other.
After the 2020 pandemic, online chess skyrocketed in popularity, causing many new people to join the world of chess. However, the complex and costly process of entering chess tournaments turns most players away from the competitive scene. We aspire to provide opportunities for all players to experience competitive play while also having fun, building a supportive community of students with similar interests that can exchange advice at all levels and generate new ideas in the process.
